What Defines you?

  

We are defined by so much pressure and expectation from others in this world. Are you the perfect wife/husband, the perfect mother/father, your financial status, your house, your car, your career, your social status, how many friends you have on facebook, how many “likes” you get for your posts/photos/tweets, etc? We are so concerned about the world and what they think of us and how we look to them. And because of that, we are also defined by the negative comments and images that are out there. Or let me say it like this – we LET ourselves be defined by the world and their opinions of us.

Take a hard look at your own life – what defines you? What is it that makes you want to hide away and withdraw from society if you don’t have it? If you lost every single thing in your life today, will you be able to look up and look other people in the eyes?

But do you know with how much love God created you? Do you realize the extent and fullness of His love for you?

Psalm 139:1-18 (NIV)

You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.

Do we realize how special we were created? If we look at God’s creation we stand in awe at how majestic it all is. But we forget that He created all of that and then, to CROWN it all he created man to rule over it. If he made all creation so beautiful and majestic, why would he create us any less? The Bible teaches us that he created us just a little lower than the angels…….

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,  what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

So why not let God define you and who you are? Why not see yourself as His perfect creation, fearfully and wonderfully made? Crowned with glory and honour! Stop looking at what the world believes and thinks and start believing what God says about you. That is something that can change your whole experience of life on this earth!

I can sum up what defines us before God in three words (3 P’s):

Position, Purpose and Passion!

Position is found in my status as a son/daughter of the Most High King, a child of God! When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour we find a new position before God – a position as a child of God and not a slave of sin. (Acts 13:32-33)

Purpose is the reason for my whole being and in the words of Jesus, the two most important laws to follow is to Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul and the second is to love others! (Matthew 22:37-40)

Passion is about what God created in me – my gifts and talents – to do His will here on this earth! This is the way he uses me to fulfil the purpose he has for all of mankind. Each of us with our own unique gifts and talents have one purpose and that is to LOVE!
